An idea for startup dating...albeit a different way

Its a common practice for startups to pitch with their ideas at startup meet for recruiting like minded individuals. A couple of startup forums that I attended termed it as startup dating. It works fantastically well for both. The startup gets to recruit people who are willing to buy into the idea and the individuals interested to work in startup get an idea / venture they can connect with. It's idea I would like to present with a twist. There are many individuals who have fantastic ideas, can visualize those ideas to the tee but however due one reason or the other are never able to do anything about it.  On other hand you have fantastic executioners who are willing to take the risks and have what it takes to make an idea a reality. However they may not be always good with ideas. So what I propose is to create a platform where these two can interact, assess and collaborate to bring the ideas to their fruition. However the most challenging part of such a collaboration

An App for Call Drops

The issue of frequent call drops is a red hot topic. The regulatory body TRAI and Cellular operators association have been desperately trying to find a common ground but not without passing the buck. TRAI says the operators need to compensate the user for call drops which seems to be a noble enough intention. On the other hand the operators body says telcos can't do much as the spectrum available is not enough. The matter is still subjudice. However I was wondering if a third party app could be created, validated and authenticated by the regulatory body and telcos association. The app could track frequency of call drops based on key criteria's consolidated based on similarities. The data generated may also help telcos to check the root cause of call drops. The same data would also help the regulatory body to check if the problems beyond the control of telcos or they just shunning the responsibility. Since the app would benefit both it maybe be a joint effort between the regul

Video Streaming: Lighter. Faster. Better

Of late I have begun streaming few video's on my mobile. Though it offers convenience the speed and quality of viewing is good, it leaves a lot to be desired. The buffering does not help either. That set me thinking. The idea though not a stroke of anything genius, is something worth considering. And I am sure that I am not the only person to have thought about it. Was just wondering if a video format which is lighter, faster and better to stream on any device be it mobile, tablets or pcs could be made. A format which can run with amazing clarity and lightening speed without requiring the 3Gs and 4Gs and also keeps the data consumption to minimum. I may be asking for too much...but does better quality have to mean more data or more GB's..why not make it easy to transfer, stream and play on the go. If this does happen the volumes will automatically drive the data consumption. Today at least in countries like India one has to think about data charges, cry about bufferin

Life After Retirement

What happens after retirement? Most people do plan for retirement. The planning however happens in terms of making financial provision so that one continues to be independent.  Quite a few do have their bucket list to be ticked off. Retirement offers them the perfect opportunity to accomplish it. A few dedicate themselves to social causes while a handful few try their hands at becoming an entrepreneur / offering their services as consultants. This though remains limited to people who have done exceedingly well in their career and have retired from senior managerial / top management posts. A major chunk however does not fit the bill. For them post retirement life turns into the challenge.  As the euphoria surrounding the retirement subsides they start finding themselves alone with time that's hard to kill. Though over a period of time they do get used life. It's come at a cost. A cost which not only those retiring have to bear but also the society at large. Consider th

Making the messenger Apps Talk to One Another

What if one messaging app can send messages to another messaging app. That would be fun for the user. The messaging services still get to keep their users. Rather than installing and using multiple messaging apps one app will suffice. The one that you like and not what others are using and you get compelled to use because of others.  The road however may be a difficult one to take as the creator will have to integrate n number of messaging apps and get them to talk with one another. It will be one hell of an idea.I still feel it will be win-win for the user and the messenger apps. The user - because there is no need to install multiple apps. The App - they get to keep their customers The real winner however will be the one who creates the app...but then looking at the ease it creates for users don't think anyone will be complaining. The online messengers services had such apps for e.g. meebo through which you could access all messengers through one login id...time for mo

On unemployment

How about an site on unemployment? On the same lines like my first salary (one of my earlier posts) why can't there be a website that lets people talk about unemployment. People will share their experiences about how they came to deal with a topic that is looked upon as a taboo and social stigma rather something which is a harsh reality of life or business need. Unemployment could be further categorized into those who have not been able to get any employment for whatsoever reason and those who have been employed / were entrepreneurs / businessmen before exigencies or circumstances pushed them into unemployment. Their viewpoints and experience sharing could help someone gain new perspectives and possibly avoid the same mistake and encourage others to take different route. I know this would be easier said than done. It would be big challenge to come out in the open talk about the challenges and distress caused due to unemployment but if something good is going to come out of it

Eco Friendly Crackers and Fireworks

So much so for the pro and anti Diwali campaign. Both arguments are strong point of views. However much to my amusement in all the arguments and counter arguments, never did I once across someone proposing a solution or taking the trouble to find way out. If we can have eco-friendly food, manufacturing, automobiles, even Ganpati festival with eco friendly idols and a hell lot of other things then why not eco-friendly crackers & Fireworks - which keep the joy of Diwali intact and reduce the impact on environment. Though initially may prove cost intensive but given the scale at which it is celebrated it won't be difficult to break even. I believe there are few option that do exists they need to be promoted, given sops and taken to the masses. Hoping to see a environment friendly Diwali...may the festival lights keeping lighting our lives with joy. Few things in the offing: http://www.deccanherald.com/content/200003/firecrackers-go-green-diwali.html http://timesofin
